Shown below are the four 4-H members who brought a program about 4-H to
the Washington Kiwanis Club at its meeting Tuesday, April 6.
They are, left to right, Rick Smith, County Extension Coordinator;
John Pope, 4-H'er; Steve Blackmon, Club Program Host; Audra C. Armour,
4-H and Youth Development Agent; and Michael Edwards, 4-H'er. Rick
told about some of the financial problems surrounding 4-H, Audra
discussed Wilkes County 4-H activities, John entertained with solos on
the baritone saxophone and bass clarinet, and Michael told of a
musical entertainment by 4-H next month.

Apr 2-3, 2010 - Spring Tour of Homes

Kiwanians were involved in all phases of Washington's 2010 Spring Tour of Homes April 2 and 3.

Jim Bundy, Trevin Burriss , Bob Simmons, Debbie Jackson served on the Joint Tour Commttee (JTC) which  included representatives from both the Woman's Club and the Kiwanis Club which have co-sponsored the tours at least since 1955. That committee has met monthly for the past year and planned the tour in great detail.

Twenty-three Kiwanians plus several volunteers worked for 190+ hours on the tour, including those named above, by selling tickets, driving tour cars, dispatching cars, loading cars with tourists.

Some years Kiwanians have opened their homes for the tour, but not this year.

Mar 30, 2010 - Kiwanis One Day - a Worldwide Project

A worldwide single day of service

Kiwanis members work in their communities all year long. But for one day in April each year, the entire Kiwanis family—Kiwanis Kids, Builders Club,Key Club, Circle K, Aktion Club and Kiwanis clubs—comes together for a day of hands-on community service that is felt around the world.

It’s called Kiwanis One Day—and the more hands we have helping, the more lives we will touch. Any project, big or small, is worth tackling. Projects include anything from building playgrounds to volunteering at a shelter to stocking shelves at a food pantry.

Want to offer your hands to help make a difference? Kiwanis One Day is April 10, 2010. Contact your local Kiwanis club today!

The project here this year is cleaning up the yard at the Robert Toombs House. Kiwanians and the Key Clubbers are asked to wear appropriate work clothes and bring appropriate yard tools to the Robert Toombs House at 10:00 a.m., April 10, 2010.

Preparation for Tour of Homes, April 3

At their club meeting Tuesday, March 30, the Washington Kiwanians went
over their plans for the Spring Tour of Homes,  April 2-3, 2010, under
the instructions of Bob Simmons, a member of the joint Kiwanis-Woman's
Club Tour Committee. The club members acknowledged the duties they
will be performing Saturday, whether selling tickets; or driving,
parking or loading cars; and Bob Simmons gave detailed instructions as
to how to load and unload tourists at each of the houses on the Day
Tour this year, the Fortson-Denard House, the Barksdale-Thomas-Wagner House,
the Irvin-Harris House, the Fortson Hill House, the
Harris-Granade-Lindsey (Hagralln), the North Alexander School,
Jackson's Chapel AME Church, and the several places for lunch.

"Obie", as he is called, told the club of his experiences as an immigrant from India obtaining funding to build a factory in Washington that is using local labor to sell fault-free woven fiber glass insulation in 200-pound rolls using fiber glass scrap from all over the world. He was highly commendatory of his 15-member work force.

Mar 19, 2010 - 6th Div Rally in Thomson

These 13 Washington Kiwanians - club members, spouses, and a widow - attended the 6th Division Rally at the Thomson Depot last night, March 19. They included, left to right, Nancy and Wayne Madden, Kerry and Nancy McAvoy, Bob Simmons, Sherry Hudson, Debra Guin, Don and Lillie Crowe, William Johnson, Steve and Eleanor Blackmon, and Margaret Norris.

The purpose of the rally, of course, was to provide for a visit by Georgia District Governor Nancy Walden, left, and her husband, Pat Pelley, center, as they greet Margaret Norris, widow of last year's district governor, Carlton Norris. Margaret was later recognized by Governor Nancy with the Kiwanis Leadership Award for her outstanding support of late husband Governor Carlton and his remarkable tenure as Governor 2008-2009.

For several minutes before dinner, the five club presidents present reported on  their clubs' activities thus far this year. All of them were upbeat in their reports concerning recruiting and projects, our Sherry particularly so. Above are Washington's Vice President Lillie Crowe, left, director of Bartram  Trail Regional Library receiving Kiwanis Leadership Award from Georgia District Governor Nancy Walden.  She is a member of the Newnan Kiwanis club and retired superintendent of Coweta County schools.

Governor Nancy presented an interesting, informative, and inspiring report on the district's goals and activities thus far this year.

The banquet dinner was catered by "Miss Jane's" of Warrenton, Georgia.  The meal included roast beef, rice and gravy, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, dinner rolls, and cups of  strawberry trifle.
